Alma J. Carlton, 90, of Jackson died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri.

She was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Zalma to Hiram and Nettie Muriel Hinkle Kinnison. She and David R. Carlton were married Oct. 2, 1954, at Cape Girardeau. He was the love of her life and preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1979.

Alma grew up in Chaffee and worked at the shoe factory. She was also a waitress at the former Alvarado Restaurant in Cape Girardeau, where she met her husband.

She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, St. Mark's Chapter Order of Eastern Star 167 for more than 50 years and the Order of Amaranth.

Alma's passion was spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a wonderful cook and loved feeding people. She loved to dance, have fun and be the "life" of any party. She loved all animals, her pets and everybody else's.

Survivors include her two daughters, Cheryl (Bruce) Thomas of Jackson and Connie (Willie) Carlton of Calera, Alabama; former son-in-law, Ken (Denise) Willett of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren, Michael Willett, Kimberly Darden, John (Ashley) Litzelfelner and Julie (Eric) Heuring; and six great-grandchildren, Tatum Willett, Alex and Abby Darden, Mia and Abigail Litzelfelner and Brett Findlay. She is also survived by friend, Becky (Randy) Burris, who was "like a daughter"; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hiram Kinnison; mother, Nettie Muriel Schultz; stepfather, Burette Schultz; a brother, Jim Kinnison; a friend, Martha (Bill) Stickler, who was "like a sister"; many loving sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; and a special friend, Rudy Brothers.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. There will be an Eastern Star service at 11:30 a.m.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
