Allen Donald McDowell, 94, of Fruitland passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home.
He was born April 6, 1919, in Fruitland, son of William Henry and Hattie Noland McDowell. He and Lorene Crites were married Oct. 29, 1938, in Blytheville, Ark.
Allen was a 1937 graduate of Fruitland High School. From 1937 to 1948 he was a dairy farmer and milk hauler in the Fruitland community. He owned and operated McDowell Dairy Equipment from 1948 through 1980. He later developed Cher-Ron-Do Estates, which became the present day Forest Meadows Subdivision on Route W in Fruitland.
Survivors include his loving wife of 74 years, Lorene; their children, Ronald McDowell of Jackson, Donna (Bill) Brugger of Paducah, Ky., Cheryl (Darrell) Hanschen of Jackson; six grandchildren, Kyle (Mendi) McDowell, Jeff (Samantha) Brugger, Julie (Andre) McDaniel, Shaun Hanschen and wife Scarlett Loomas, Leslie Hanschen and husband Bryan Schmid and Brittany Hanschen; three great-grandchildren, Martin Brugger, Miles Schmid and Amelie Hanschen.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Wilson and Fred McDowell; two sisters, Lou Chambers and Lora Reiman; an infant son, Loren Allen McDowell; and a granddaughter, Mary Melissa McDowell.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
