JACKSON -- Alice Faye Thompson, 72, of Jackson died Sunday May 16, 1999, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 13, 1926, at Jackson, daughter of E.A. and Alice Faye Burdette Mason. She and Billy Joe Thompson, Sr. were married June 4, 1944, at Cape Girardeau.

Thompson was a 1944 graduate of Jackson High School. She was a member of the New McKendree United Methodist Church and its Naomi Circle. She was a member of the U.M.W. and had been a member of the church choir for over 50 years.

She was a charter member of the Jackson Noon Optimist Club and currently served on the board. Thompson had been voted as Woman of the Year by the Optimists. She was also founder of the Noon Optimist Little Indians football program and had helped for many years with the Optimist Girls basketball program.

Thompson was a member of the Jackson Indians Booster Club and a devoted football fan.

She was a member of the Southeast Missouri State University Copper Dome Society, served on the Jackson City Park Board, was a P.E.O. member, belong to the Thursday Study Club and was a member of the Kimbeland Country Club.

She had owned and operated Alice in Wonderland in Jackson. She and her husband owned and operated the former Deal Nursing Home in Jackson for 42 years.

Surviving are her husband, Billy Joe Thompson, Sr. of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Jane and Dwain Hahs of Rochester, N.Y.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Joe, Jr. and Robin Thompson and John Mason and Teresa Thompson all of Jackson, James Nelson and Trudy Thompson of Sugar Land, Texas and Jack Patrick and Kim Thompson of New Wells; 12 grandchildren, Teresa Anne Ashman of New York, N.Y., Billy Joe Thompson III of Jackson, Kyle Mason, Kaci Lynn and Kody Nelson Thompson all of Jackson, Justin Lee and Jessica Anne Hahs of Rochester, N.Y., Connor James, Riley Hull and Blake Robert Thompson all of Sugar Land, Texas, and Hanna Dawn and Lane Jacob Thompson both of New Wells.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Anne Thompson Ashman; and two brothers, Teddy and Bill Mason.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the New McKendree United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Lohse officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.

Memorials may be made to the New McKendree United Methodist Church Choir, the Jackson Noon Optimist Club or the Jackson City Park.
