Alice Thyr Manes, 91, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Jackson, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at her home.
She was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo., to David E. and Frances E. Swedlund Thyr.
She and Stone Manes were married Nov. 25, 1979, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaumont, Texas.
Mrs. Manes graduated from Drury College in Springfield, Mo., with a bachelor's degree. She taught school at Longfellow Elementary School in Beaumont, retiring in the '70s.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and was an avid student of the Bible.
Survivors include her husband, Stone Manes of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Myra Adan-Manes of Madrid, Spain, Jeanette Manes of Long Beach, Calif., Ann Manes of Lumberton, Texas, Jean Marie Weber of Olney, Ill. and Fran Gatlin of Oakton, Va.; two sons, Paul I. Manes of New York City and Kevin Manes of St. Charles, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Paul J. Manes.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
