SIKESTON -- Mary Alice Johnston, 53, of Warrenton, Va., died Monday, May 27, 1996, at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, following an extended illness.
She was born May 6, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of F.X. and Alma Jean Morgan Schumacher Jr. She and Dean Johnston were married Aug. 14, 1965, at Sikeston.
Johnston was a 1961 graduate of Nazareth Academy High School in Lexington, Ky., and received a degree in education from Catherine Spalding College in Louisville, Ky., in 1965.
She taught biology and chemistry at Prairie Home High School in Prairie Home. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Warrenton, Va., and had been a Girl Scout troop leader.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Maury Johnson of Wintersville, Ohio, Dale Johnston of Warrenton, Va.; five daughters, Cheri Geoghegan of Colorado Springs, Colo., Crista, Grace and Rose Johnston of Warrenton, Va., Amy McElvany of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two brothers, Francis and Mark Schumacher of Sikeston; three sisters, Barbara Webb and Teresa Arndt of Sikeston, Anna Voelker of Jefferson City, and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
