Alice A. Harris, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at her home. She was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Whitewater, daughter of Cirgus and Josie Proffer Hosea. She and Melvin G. Harris were married July 18, 1936. He died in 1988. Mrs. Harris retired as a seamstress from Thorngate Ltd. in 1980...

Alice A. Harris, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at her home.

She was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Whitewater, daughter of Cirgus and Josie Proffer Hosea. She and Melvin G. Harris were married July 18, 1936. He died in 1988.

Mrs. Harris retired as a seamstress from Thorngate Ltd. in 1980.

Survivors include a niece and caregiver, Margie Fowler of Cape Girardeau; a son, Gene (Donna) Harris of Butler, Ind.; two daughters, Virginia (Jerry) Munson of Metamora, Ill., Mary Ann Seabaugh of St. Louis; a sister, Hazel Kynion of Granite City, Ill.; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol, and son-in-law, Jim Antrup; three brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Allen officiating. Burial will be in Barks Chapel Cemetery at Crump.
