Alice May Curry, 78, of Jackson passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Providence, Ky., daughter of Carl and Katie E. Robison Curry. Alice attended the former Goose Pond School west of Advance, Mo., the former Horrel School east of Oak Ridge, the former Gravel Hill School, and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1949...

Alice May Curry, 78, of Jackson passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Providence, Ky., daughter of Carl and Katie E. Robison Curry.

Alice attended the former Goose Pond School west of Advance, Mo., the former Horrel School east of Oak Ridge, the former Gravel Hill School, and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1949.

After high school she worked for the former Jackson Shoe Factory until it closed in 1988 and then worked at the former Florsheim Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau until retiring in 1993.

Alice was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson 30 years. She was previously a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and the former Calvary Baptist Church of Jackson.

Loving survivors include a brother, Carl "Gene" Curry of Jackson; a sister, Betty J. (the late Clark) Cowan of Oak Ridge; a nephew, Dr. Mike Cowan of Oak Ridge; an uncle, Albert Robison of Columbia, Ill.; great-nephews and a great-niece, Jason Cowan of Biehle, Mo., Kimberly Cowan of St. Louis, Jeffrey Cowan of St. Louis, and their mother, Kathy (the late Kevin) Cowan of Biehle.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jon Sedgwick officiating. Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
