Alfred Henry Poppen, 73, of Cape Girardeau died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016, at the home of his son near Thebes, Illinois.
He was born Oct. 3, 1942, at Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, the son of Adam and Irma Roth Poppen.
He retired as a dock supervisor at Gilster-Mary Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie, of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Alfred Lynn Poppen of Chaffee, Missouri, Shannon (Tanya) Poppen of Thebes and Edward Jess "E.J." Poppen of McClure, Illinois; a daughter, Susan (Mike) Kaufman of McClure; a stepdaughter, Melissa Myers of Bunker Hill, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Shirley) Poppen of Red Bud, Illinois; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Poppen, and two sisters, Aloha (Bill) Jones and Delores Godier.
Visitation for Alfred Henry Poppen will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Kirby officiating. Interment will follow at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made payable to Crain Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.
