Alfred Menz

KELSO, Mo. -- Alfred A. Menz, 88, of Kelso died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in New Hamburg, Mo., to Theon and Bertha Hahn Menz. He and Helen B. Diebold were married June, 27, 1953, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso.

Alfred served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a private first class from 1943 to 1946.

He worked at Missouri Electric Works, Missouri Utilities and retired from Procter & Gamble.

Alfred was actively involved in various organizations in the community throughout his life. He was a member of VFW in Scott City, a Fourth Degree member and trustee of Thomas A. Langen Assembly 568 and Knights of Columbus 1111 in Cape Girardeau. Alfred was a member of St. Augustine Parish and Men's Club. He served 25 years on the school board of Kelso C-7 School District. Alfred and his wife, Helen, volunteered 20 years with Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years; two daughters, Cecilia (Jim) Seiler of Benton, Mo., LaVerne (Kenny) Dirnberger of Benton; five sons, Charles (Donna) Menz and Denis (Linda) Menz of Kelso, Greg (Denise) Menz of Benton, Steve (Jenifer) Menz of Boerne, Texas, Tim (Bonnie) Menz of Jackson; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Augustine Church. Parish prayers will be at 7:30, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary.

Mass of resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery will full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Augustine Catholic Church or Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary.
