Alex Cantrell Alex E. Cantrell, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Missouri Veterans Home. He was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Leoma, Tenn., son of A.J. and Lura Messer Cantrell. Alex E. Cantrell, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Leoma, Tenn., son of A.J. and Lura Messer Cantrell.

Cantrell owned and operated Alex E. Cantrell Insurance Agency and also farmed many years. He retired at age 50 and moved to Clearwater, Fla. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Knudtson and husband Jay of Cape Girardeau and their son Gunnar Knudtson; two sons, David Cantrell of Cape Girardeau and daughter Demi Cantrell; Derek Cantrell of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Eric Cantrell of Crossville, Tenn., and wife Sami; three sisters, Faythe Shore and husband Larry of Maryville, Tenn., Norma Munns and husband Andy of Crossville, Jeannie Woodring and husband Jim of Crossville; many special nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Olline Cain Cantrell, Aug. 28, 1992; his parents (memaw and papaw) who resided in Matthews, Mo., and Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Roberta Pitchford who resided in Scottsville, Ky., and Jimmie May Menzel who resided in Albany, Ore.

A private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, Mo., with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
