Albertine Fisher

Albertine Ann Martin Fisher, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born May 10, 1918, daughter of Anna Schonhoff Martin and Albert Martin at Advance, Mo.

She was a graduate of Advance High School, where she was valedictorian of her high school class, and Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in elementary education.

She married Hubert George Fisher June 11, 1943, at St. Anthony's Church in Glennon, Mo. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1998.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Dean; her parents, and three sisters.

Albertine is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo (Edwin) Ray of Hamilton, Ill., Patti (Earl) Caid of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.; two sons, Timothy (Rita) Fisher and Robert (Linda) Fisher of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are six grandsons, Tom Morie, Jon Ray, Matthew Fisher, Mark Fisher, Blake Fisher, and Branden Caid; and five granddaughters, Amy Ray (Michael) VanFleet, Tina Morie (Aaron) Griffith, Emily Fisher (Craig) Clippard, Kelly and Kate Fisher. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, David VanFleet and Lucas Caid, three sisters, Martha Martin, Catherine (Charles) Lancour, Mary (Al) Wubker, a brother, C.A. (Wilma) Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Fisher was an elementary school teacher for all of her adult life. She taught at Tilsit, Perkins, Leopold, and Delta, Mo. She taught at St. Mary's Cathedral Grade School 30 years, retiring in May 1988. She loved teaching and her students and enjoyed every day she spent in her classrooms.

She was an inspiration to many young teachers. After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed time spent at their cabin on Lake Wappapello, fishing, boating, and visits from their family and friends.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish where she served on the parish council for many years. She was also a member of St. Ann's Sodality and the Legion of Mary. One of her fondest memories was the pilgrimage she made to see Pope John III in New Orleans. She was a member of St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary and helped deliver Meals on Wheels. Her loving and generous ways will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to -8 p.m. today with parish prayers at 7:30.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with Msgr. Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Church Cemetery at Glennon.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Mary's Catholic Grade School or the American Cancer Society.
