Albert Wulfers

Albert N. Wulfers, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Edward C. and Clotilda Seib Wulfers.

Mr. Wulfers served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an Army specialty aviation cadet (pilot) and achieved the rank of first lieutenant. After the war he returned to Cape Girardeau and worked at Firestone until he was recalled in 1951 to serve in the Korean War as a U.S. Air Force captain.

His love of flying led him to Trans World Airlines where he was a pilot 30 years. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, VFW Post 3838, and past member of Knights of Columbus.

Al will always be remembered for his love and devotion toward his daughters and for all of his humorous stories.

Survivors include three daughters, Cassandra Rhea Grauer of Auburn, Calif., Claudia Rachelle Leeper of Livermore, Calif., Kellye Jane Wulfers of New York City, N.Y.; two brothers, James Wulfers and Gregg Wulfers of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Madeline Rhea Leeper, age 6, and John "Sam" Leeper, age 8, of Livermore; Shane Albert Grauer, age 6, and Seth Elliott Grauer, age 13, of Auburn.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Rose Mary Wulfers; Rita Glueck; Sister Noel Wulfers, SSND; Agnes Latimer; and a brother, Carl Wulfers.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Rev. Charlie Prost will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military honors.
