Albert Calvin "Al" Hitt, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, July 2, 2016, at his home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Advance, Missouri, to Albert Jackson and Nora Louise DeLapp Hitt.
He and Ella Allmon were married May 12, 1946, at Whitewater. She preceded him in death in 1974. He later married Mary Steddom Goodman on July 12, 1975, at Cape Girardeau.
Al served in the Army and Army Air Force as a paratrooper in World War II.
He first attended Southeast Missouri State College and then received a degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
He worked as a pharmacist but was hired as a pharmaceutical salesman for E.R. Squibb & Sons, which became part of Bristol-Myers Squibb. He eventually returned to work as a pharmacist for Wal-Mart and other pharmacies and worked until he was 87 years of age.
He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club, Southeast Missouri State University Booster Club and Cape County Pharmacist Association. He was also a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was very active in his church and was a Sunday-school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hitt of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Donna Lynn Osiecki of St. Charles, Missouri, and Rhonda Ellen Rumbaugh of State College, Pennsylvania; two stepsons, Scott Goodman of St. Charles and David Goodman of Longmont, Colorado; a stepdaughter, Lisa Laffoon of Malawi, Africa; and 10 grandchildren, Rachel Corrigan, Mike, Doug and Craig Rumbaugh, Meg and John Paul Calvin Goodman, Anna Marie, Nathanel, Joel and Jeremiah Laffoon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a daughter, Marcia Hitt; brothers, Eugene, Waldo, Everett and Lowell Hitt; and sisters, Lorene Lusher, Lenore Hitt, Anne Wood and Ila Marshall.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Shawn Wasson officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
