TAMPA, Florida -- Alan L. Perry, 48, of Tampa passed away suddenly Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
He was born Aug. 3, 1969, in Clayton, Missouri, to Marvin John and Barbara Ann Little Perry Jr.
Alan was a member of the Southeast High School class of 1987 in Springfield, Illinois, and a 1998 graduate of Shimer College in Waukegan, Illinois, with a double major in social sciences and humanities.
His hobbies included philosophy and lively debate, spending time with his son, traveling and making people laugh. He loved nothing more than to be on a stage and performing for a crowd.
Alan published a book in 2011 and has an impressive collection of screenplays. He was also an active member of the Guardian Angels for more than 27 years and patrolled in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Tampa.
He will be remembered for his huge presence and giant heart and his selfless and giving nature.
Loving survivors include his mother, Barbara Perry of Belleville, Illinois; fiancee, Julia "Ginger" Horr of Tampa; a son, Leonidas Perry of Tampa; three dearly loved stepchildren, Gryphon, Zoe and Drake; and a brother, John (Ellen) Perry of Dawson, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association.
