Agatha L. Hawn -- loving mother, grandmother, "Gigi" and faithful Christian servant -- went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, June 8, 2023, at her home at The Villas of Jackson. She was 91.
She was born Dec. 21, 1931, at Oak Ridge, daughter of Lawrence and Amelia "Bet" Ford. She and Charles Hawn were married April 4, 1954.
Agatha was a stay-at-home mom, dedicating herself to raising her children until they were school age. She then worked as a teacher's aide at Washington Elementary School and as financial secretary for First Baptist Church, both in Cape Girardeau. She and Charles purchased Hawn's IGA in Marble Hill, Missouri, in 1976, which they sold to retire in 1984.
She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church for 37 years. She taught Sunday school and many vacation Bible schools and had fond memories of leading the young married adults' Training Union Class at Lynwood. Many of those class members are still active members of Lynwood. She ministered with Charles as one of the founders of SEMO Son Riders Christian Motorcycle Association.
Agatha was a beloved wife for almost 52 years before Charles preceded her in death in 2006. She was a dear mother and mother-in-law to Pam and Rick Bandermann, Kim and David Patrick and Soni and Val Crader. She was a wonderful grandmother to Jason (Sarah) Bandermann; Ryan (Whitney) Bandermann; and Kyle (Lance) Bandermann; Keri and Josh Lemons, who both preceded her in death; Magin (Jeff) Chapman; Jeremy (Daisy) Patrick; and Ben Patrick; Luke (Lindsey) Crader; Matt (Betsy) Crader; Zach (Ashlee) Crader; and Mollie (Hunter) Blume. She found much joy in her great-grandchildren, Ansley, Charli, Adler, who preceded her in death, Hollyn, Jude, Brynn, Emory and Beau Bandermann; Brooks, Paisley and Rhett Chapman; Trevor, Abby and Ellie Patrick; Whitley, Beckett, Nola and Ausy Crader. She is also survived by her devoted brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Patsy Ford.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold and Garnet Ford; and a much-loved sister-in-law, Maxine Hawn Barrett.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Lynwood Baptist Church.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the church, with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
The family would like to share its huge appreciation to the staff of The Villas of Jackson and Saint Francis Hospice. Both organizations loved and cared well for its mom, grandma and Gigi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lynwood Baptist Church Building Fund.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
