JACKSON -- Adolf Sokolowski, 56, of Jackson died Tuesday, June 2, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 27, 1942, in Poland, son of Friedrich and Lydia Steinke Sokolowski. He and Earlene Conrad were married Feb. 23, 1963, at Millersville.
Sokolowski and his mother, brothers and sisters came to the United States in 1952 under the sponsorship of the former Christ E&R Church in Cape Girardeau.
He was a 1962 graduate of Jackson High School and was active in most sports. He became a naturalized citizen in 1962 in Cape Girardeau.
Sokolowski worked for Jackson Excavating Co. and Local 513. He had worked at Procter & Gamble since 1984.
He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ and was a former church councilman. He was a former member of Jackson Jaycees and Boosters Club, member of Friends for Steam, Elks Lodge, and had been a leader with Boy Scout Troop 311.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steven Sokolowski of Cape Girardeau, Scott Sokolowski of Greenville, S.C., Stanley Sokolowski of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Herman Sokolowski of Advance, Otto and Eric Sokolowski of Anaheim, Calif.; two sisters, Natalie Herspietel of Hillsboro, Erika Tiedke of Anaheim; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. An Elks service will be held at 7.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Sam Roethemeyer will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
