BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Adam L. Newell, 71, of Bloomfield died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 10, 1932, in the Oak Ridge community, son of John A. and Dessie Welker Newell. He and Bertha Jaco were married Nov. 1, 1952. Newell worked for the former Jaco Brothers Timber Buyers before starting his own business, Newell Logging. ...

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Adam L. Newell, 71, of Bloomfield died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 10, 1932, in the Oak Ridge community, son of John A. and Dessie Welker Newell. He and Bertha Jaco were married Nov. 1, 1952.

Newell worked for the former Jaco Brothers Timber Buyers before starting his own business, Newell Logging. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ in Poplar Bluff, Mo., a board member, and former deacon of churches where his wife was pastor.

He served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Eddie and Dale Newell of Bloomfield; seven brothers, Rev. Charles, Carl, Leslie and Gene Newell, all of Jackson, Lyman Newell of Webster Groves, Mo., Johnny and George Newell of Oak Ridge; five sisters, Alice Kester of Oak Ridge, Pauline Kimbel, Patsy Pulliam and Aline Poe, all of Jackson, Karen Eaker of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Eddie Sisco and Robert Poe officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
