DEXTER, Mo. -- Arthur Dwaine Cox, or A.D., as he was known to many, passed away at his home Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the age of 75.
The son of the late Arthur Marion and Zoa Gray Cox was born Oct. 6, 1937, in Puxico, Mo.
He was a resident of Dexter, formerly of Cape Girardeau. He graduated from Puxico High School in 1954 at the age of 16. He married his wife, Shirley, in 1959, beginning a lasting partnership that remained 53 years. He also was a loving father of three children and eight grandchildren.
A.D. compiled a devoted and successful 44-year career at Missouri Utilities, now Ameren Missouri, with his final position being Southeast District superintendent of operations. He was a member of the Masons and the Lions Club and was actively involved in the Dexter Youth Baseball Program for several years. Later in life he added golf to his hobbies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael D. Cox and wife Donna of Chesterfield, Mo.; two daughters, Paula Hutchcraft and husband Bill of Dexter and Shelly Turlington and husband Todd of Jackson; two sisters, Jewell Cookson and Pansy Barnfield of Puxico; and eight grandchildren, Matt Cox, Mitch Cox, Abbie Cox, Lauren Hutchcraft, Brooke Hutchcraft, Erika Hutchcraft, Katie Christian and Ryan Turlington.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lester Clayton officiating. Interment will be in Dexter Cemetery.
