ORAN -- Abram S. Hirschowitz, 79, of Oran died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1992, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 25, 1913, in Oran, the son of the late Max and Margaret Ellnan Hirschowitz. He married Verna I. Harris, who survives of Sikeston.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army. He was part-owner and operator of the Hirschowitz Hardware Supply store in Oran for many years and attended the Bnai Israel congregation in Cape Girardeau. He also was the former mayor of Oran; a past patron of the Morley Masonic Lodge #184; and a member of the St. Louis Scottish Rite.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jane Menz of Sikeston and Gilda Whitaker of Rochester Hills, Mich.; a brother, Louie Hirschowitz of Oran; a sister, Anna Friedman of Clearwater, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, where funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Louie Hirschowitz will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Garden near Morley.
