A. Burton Cardin, 74, of Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Vanduser, Mo., son of Alphas Henry and Mayme Lockhart Cardin. He and Lola Dillender were married May 28, 1949, in Piggott, Ark.
Cardin was an electrician with IBEW Local 1. He also had been a welder for Missouri Dry Dock. Early on, he worked with his father in Vanduser to learn his trade as a blacksmith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from Dec. 7, 1944, until July 22, 1946. He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Revs. Jim Matthews and Cy Smith will officiate, with burial in Cape County Memorial Park. Veterans graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3838.
