THEBES Ill. -- 1st Sgt. Errol Flynn Cox, 74, of Thebes passed away at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at his home. 1st Sgt. THEBES Ill. -- 1st Sgt. Errol Flynn Cox, 74, of Thebes passed away at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at his home.

1st Sgt. Cox was born Sept. 13, 1940, in Thebes, son of the late Huie and Juanita Miller Cox.

1st Sgt. Cox was a member of the Alexander Freewill Baptist Church near Thebes, was a retired first sergeant of the United States Army serving 22 years and was a hero who received many distinguished honors for his service. He also was a Green Beret.

Survivors include his wife, Donna L. Babcock Cox of Thebes; three sons, Steve Cox of Waynesville, Missouri, Jim Cox of Waynesville and Daniel Cox of Olive Branch, Illinois; two daughters, Kim Cox of Waynesville and Regina Cox Yoast of Cape Girardeau; three stepsons, Timothy Azinger of Farmington, Missouri, Bryan Azinger of Cape Girardeau and Steve Azinger of St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Tamera Keller of Cape Girardeau and Tanya Heuring of Sikeston, Missouri; a brother, Howard Stanley Cox of Thebes; a sister, Nancy Kerr of Thebes; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

1st Sgt. Cox was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, Illinois.

The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Earnest Brown officiating. Interment with be in Olive Branch Cemetery, with full military honors given by the United States Army Burial Team of Fort Leonardwood, Missouri.

Donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation in memory of 1st Sgt. Errol Flynn Cox.
