Baughn has served in numerous positions with the commission and served 15 years in the Air Force.

Since opening Sept. 29, 2003, the cemetery has conducted more than 1,600 interments.

"Our cemeteries continue the grand tradition of honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country," said Larry D. Kay, executive director of the Missouri Veterans Commission, "I encourage everyone to attend a Memorial Day ceremony or participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day. It's the least we can do for these brave, gallant men and women."
