The National Science Foundation has awarded a $16,000 grant to a Southeast Missouri State University physics professor.

Dr. Jai Dahiya received the grant to develop a course and experiments in the area of materials science.

The work will be conducted for the Northeast Center for Telecommunications Technologies.

The grant period began Feb. 1 and runs through Aug. 31. Dahiya has requested matching funds from Southeast to upgrade his equipment for the project.

Dahiya has been teaching at Southeast for 15 years. The focus of his research, which he has been doing for the past decade, is on microwave spectroscopy.

Over the years, he has involved 40 undergraduates in his research. Dahiya's ultimate goal is to develop a large materials science lab at Southeast.
