Police seeking suspect in purse theft

Cape Girardeau police are seeking the public's help in searching for a young woman suspected of stealing a purse Oct. 2 at a local business.

The victim, an older woman, forgot her purse in her shopping cart while she put her purchases in her car, police spokesman Darin Hickey said in an email to local media.

Within a minute, the victim realized she had forgotten her purse and returned to the business, where she discovered someone had stolen her purse, Hickey said.

Images taken from a surveillance video show the suspect carrying two purses over her shoulder, with one concealing the victim's purse, Hickey said.
