A 26-year-old man was shot in the left arm Tuesday after an altercation in the 2800 block of Themis Street.
The shooter, who remains at-large, fled the scene on foot, Cape Girardeau police spokesman Cpl. Jason Selzer said. He was picked up by a brown Mazda Protege a short time later, which officers tracked to the 2800 block of Independence Street, Selzer said.
Investigators combed the area near the shooting, collecting at least two shell casings and interviewing potential witnesses.
When officers tracking the Mazda were able to stop it, the shooter had already exited the vehicle, Selzer said. A handgun was found in the vehicle, he said, but Selzer could not confirm whether it was the weapon used in the shooting.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by officers.
Police received conflicting reports on the number of shots fired, with the number ranging from two to five, Selzer said.
The victim was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment, Selzer said. The victim was able to answer police questions and the wound did not appear to be life-threatening, he said.
