Local groups will host Memorial Day ceremonies Monday. Among the events are:n American Legion Post 158 and its Auxiliary will kick off their Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. in Jackson near the entrance of the Jackson City Cemetery on South High Street, with patriotic music performed by the Jackson Municipal Band. The Rev. Sam Roethemeyer of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, whose great-grandfather served in the Civil War and father and uncles served in World War II, will be the guest speaker. The service will be followed by a complimentary continental breakfast, open to the public, at American Legion Post 158.
* Cape Girardeau's Joint Veterans Council will hold a Memorial Day ceremony the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway. Doors will open at 10 a.m. with music from the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band, and the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Glenn Schneider, U.S. Marine Corps, retired. * The Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association will have its annual service at the cemetery on County Road 307, off Highway 91, near Bell City, Mo. A covered dish luncheon will begin at noon, with a service at 1 p.m. with a theme of youth participation. Boy Scout Troop 51 of Chaffee, Mo., will provide the honor guard, and students from Delta High School will read essays and perform music. A business meeting will be at 2 p.m. This is the Pleasant Grove Church's 125th anniversary year.
