As part of its service to voters, the League of Women Voters of Cape Girardeau County is sponsoring a televised forum for Cape Girardeau City Council candidates to be broadcast on public access Channel 5.
Times of the broadcast will be announced on the channel's "Message Line."
Sandy Bonner, the league's Voter Service Director, will be the moderator, using established LWV procedures.
The tape is produced by the Mass Communications Department at Southeast Missouri State University.
Candidates to appear include: Melvin Gateley and Albert M. Spradling III for mayor; James "J.J." Williamson Jr., and Frank Stoffregen for Ward 1; Tom Neumeyer and Brenda Dohogne for Ward 2; and Jay Knudtson and Richard Eggimann for Ward 6.
The format will give each candidate an opportunity to make an opening statement and to answer a set of questions, predetermined by the league, with strict time limits to be observed.
Date of the city council election is April 5. This will be the first election under the city's ward (or "zone") representation system; for many years council members have been elected at large.
