A Sikeston, Mo., man became the fourth suspect arrested in connection with a Friday night kidnapping, the Scott County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday.
Cody James McRoy, 19, faces charges of felonious restraint and second-degree assault for his role in the kidnapping and assault of a 21-year-old man Friday night, the Scott County Sheriff's Department reported.
Three other suspects -- Andrew T. Robinett, 26; Ashley A. Ivie, 20; and Bryce A. Western, 18, all of Sikeston -- have been charged with assault, kidnapping, felonious restraint and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the case.
According to a probable-cause affidavit filed by deputy Garrett Cook, the victim did not mention McRoy's involvement at first because he believed McRoy had no choice in the matter and was coerced into taking part in the assault.
Probable-cause affidavits filed by Detective Jeff Schmitt against the other suspects indicate the victim told officers he had stepped outside his Sikeston home to smoke a cigarette when Robinett and Western grabbed him from behind and dragged him to a Chevy Malibu driven by Ivie.
According to Schmitt's affidavits, Ivie drove to her residence in Sikeston, where the victim told officers Robinett, Western and Ivie kicked, hit, scratched and choked him until he lost consciousness.
When the victim regained consciousness, Robinett put a pistol in his mouth and told him "if he did not get his money he was going to kill him," the affidavits stated.
After convincing Ivie, Robinett and Western to take him back home so he could get money, the victim locked them outside his house and called his mother, who came to the house and tried to block the suspects in the driveway, the affidavits stated.
According to Cook's affidavit, McRoy said he was at Ivie's house when she and the other suspects left. He admitted he kicked and punched the victim but said he was afraid Robinett would assault him.
Online court records show Robinett pleaded guilty to drug charges in 2006 and 2010 and was served with a full order of protection after being accused of adult abuse in April 2007, while Ivie was placed on probation for misdemeanor domestic assault in September 2011.
Capt. Ken Kinder of the Scott County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday the case remains under investigation, and additional information will be released later.
"I anticipate more press releases on this story," Kinder said.
