Cape Girardeau Civic Center board president John Jenkins said the civic center has planned some specific fund-raising projects this year.
Jenkins said some people may try to use the center's name to promote efforts without its permission.
With the number of fund-raising projects going on in the community these days, it is easy to become confused over which ones are Civic Center events.
The center will have wine and cheese parties on June 28 from 7 to 10 p.m. The parties will be at the homes of Evelyn and John Boardman, 221 Independence; Al Phillips, 7A S. Spanish; and Adele and Charles Kupchella, 303 S. Spanish.
Entrance costs $20 a person, which allows admittance to all three homes.
The center will also hold an auction on July 26.
Other than that, donations may be solicited by board members Jenkins, Dr. Dan Tallent, Tamara Zellars Buck, Jeff Unterreiner, Lloyd Williams, Donald Sherwood, Dr. Paul Keys, Ellsworth Ware III, Marvin McBride, Jo Boyer, Marie Walker, David Goncher and Dave Pearce.
"We don't always have to get monetary donations," Jenkins said. "If someone wants to donate time or equipment, we're more than happy to work with them in any way."
Jenkins said the center will also offer a year's pass for $5. It doesn't have to be a cash transaction. "If someone wants to come down to the center and do $5 worth of work, they can do that, too," he said.
