Cape Girardeau police are investigating an assault and robbery that occurred Sunday, leaving one man slashed with a knife and missing his wallet.
Two Perryville, Mo., men were injured when they stopped their car to talk to a couple of men on the 400 block of Bellevue.
Police give this account:
About 10:30 p.m., the victims got out of their car and approached two men on the sidewalk when two additional men attacked them from behind.
Police said the two victims did not recognize their assailants and could not identify the men they stopped to talk with.
A resident in a nearby home called police when he heard the sounds of fighting. When officers arrived minutes later, only the two victims were there. Police searched the area, but no weapons or suspects were found near the scene.
One man suffered a 4-inch knife cut to his back and a cut to his neck. The other suffered cuts and bruises to his head.
