Cape Girardeau city manager Michael G. Miller appointed Heather Brooks as the administrative assistant to the city manager Thursday.
Brooks comes to Cape Girardeau from Superior, Colo., where she had served as community services analyst since December 2001.
Brooks has also served as a management assistant for the city of Fort Collins, Colo., a management intern with the city of Mission Hills, Kan., as well as a budget analyst for the city of Greeley, Colo.
Brooks holds a masters in public administration degree from the University of Kansas and a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
"Cape Girardeau is an attractive community with its wonderful heritage and welcoming nature." Brooks said. "I am very excited to join the city team and to become a member of this community."
As administrative assistant, Brooks will be responsible for providing assistance to the city manager by conducting research, writing reports, analyzing operational systems and recommending improvements when indicated, aiding in and conducting employee training, coordinating special projects, processing residents' requests, making public presentations, providing management liaison with residents' task forces, commissions and committees, serve as emergency management coordinator, and maintain the city's Web site.
"Heather will be a perfect fit with our community and the city administrative team," Miller said. "She provides the energy, people skills, municipal government background and a love of the city management profession that we were seeking in an administrative assistant. I am extremely happy that she accepted the position."
Brooks will fill a position left vacant by Walter Denton, who resigned in October to accept the position of city administrator for the city of O' Fallon, Ill. Brooks will begin her new duties March 17.
