LETTERS; OVERWEIGHT TEEN-AGER WAS IGNORED

To the editor:

I am writing in reference to the Jan. 10 article, "Mother of 680-pound teen convicted of child abuse."

Can a person who weighs 680 pounds move to avoid bed sores? I also don't believe it is easy to care for a person who weighs that much.

I don't believe abuse comes to a fat person when you feed her. It's when you close the door and ignore her. How many people came into that child's life and shut the door and ignored her? Where was the help?

I say to the mother: I am very sorry for a world that didn't help, for all of us who shut the door on your baby and yourself. You will have a chance to show us all our mistakes and make us change.
