To the editor:

Last week a good friend's life was cut short by cancer. Allen Hawk of Anna was my teammate and fierce competitor on Wednesday nights at West Park Lanes. At his funeral last Saturday, a bowling team from Cape Girardeau arrived with a team bowling shirt and announced that "Big Al" was being named an "honorary Rowdy Roller."

I have been in competitive sports over 50 years, but I have never been touched more than by this show of respect and sportsmanship by a fine group of bowlers. The actions taken by these friends and competitors will not soon be forgotten by Al's teammates and family. Thanks, Rowdy Rollers.
