LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: JACKSON EFFORT WILL CONTINUE FOR GOOD SCHOOLS

To the editor:

I would like to thank the many, many people who worked so hard and devoted so much time to get the Jackson school bond issues passed. While all of us are disappointed in the outcome, I don't believe our effort was in vain.

Because of the grassroots effort to educate residents of Jackson of the needs of our district, I believe we have started the long process to improve our schools.

While I find it unfortunate that we are unable to provide the district with the resources it needs at this time, I feel more confident in our system now than I did at the beginning of this process.

Over these last few months, I have had the great fortune to meet and work with many of our fine teachers, administrators and school board members. As a parent, I have the utmost confidence these people will do a tremendous job to prepare our children for the future, regardless of the resources available to them.

Dr. Ron Anderson and his fine staff, along with Dr. T. Wayne Lewis and the school board, are good, honorable people whose only agenda that I can tell is to do what's best for our children. My hope is that our community will work closely with these people to help solve our problems we are faced with today in our schools.

Finally, to all those students whom we promised to help: I know right now you probably feel a bit deserted by the adults who promised to make your needs a priority. Please do not feel we have abandoned you. There are obviously a number of people who are still unclear how desperate your situation is at the junior high school and many others who just need some more facts.

Our pledge to you is that we will not stop working with members of our community to inform and educate them on your situation. We know that just because the issues did not pass this time, the problems you are faced with are not going to disappear. Your needs are still a priority to us, and we intend to continue the effort to provide you the best environment to learn and grown in.
