MEADOW HEIGHTS LOOKS AHEAD

With a new superintendent at the helm, the Meadow Heights school district hopes to rebuild trust and get on with the business of educating children.

The board of education chose well with Cheri Fuemmeler as superintendent. She has served as elementary principal the past seven years and interim superintendent through the summer's crisis.

Former superintendent Tom Waller resigned in July amid accusations of falsifying state student enrollment records. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is still investigating the matter to see if the school district owes the state money.

Fuemmeler is a known quantity, familiar with the school's operation and staff. She has a good reputation among educators. Education is also a family affair. Her husband, David, serves as superintendent of the Nell Holcomb School District.

Despite all the uproar of the summer, good things are happening at Meadow Heights. It may be difficult for the district to totally move forward until the state investigation ends, but Fuemmeler is building positive feelings among staff and students. She is also working to improve community relations. It seems a good start for Meadow Height's new superintendent.
