Southeast Missouri State University certainly is flying high with the news its fall enrollment is the largest in 14 years.

Its benchmark enrollment stands at 8,869. That's the highest its been since 1985 when enrollment hit 9,058.

This achievement didn't just happen. It is the result of lots of hard work by university recruiters and officials.

As the university extends its services into more regional communities this will also have a positive effect on the numbers.

The higher admission standard adopted a few years ago may also be having a positive effect. Students with better academic records tend to stay longer.

The university has also boosted the number of graduate programs and made them more accessible in terms of night and evening offerings. The graduate enrollment is up nearly 33 percent from just a year ago.

Since 1994, total enrollment is up nearly 1,000 students. That's certainly impressive.

Southeast's enrollment achievement this year is certainly cause to celebrate. After the party, it's back to work.
