LETTERS: HILLS KEEP ANNOYING PROGRAMS AT BAY

To the editor:

I somewhat agree with Donn Miller from Tamms, Ill. One of the pleasure I have living in Southeast Missouri is that Dr. Laura and Rush Limbaugh (sorry, Limbaughs of this area -- I'm sure you're fine people) don't come easily into my home.

Perhaps it is that my house is built into the ground. Perhaps it is the close proximity of Trail of Tears State Park hills and bluffs blocking my radio waves. But it is a gentler life than the city life I had a few years back.

Some two years ago, I listened to Dr. Laura and found her most unpleasant. It's not the condemning of living together that would bother me. In fact, when I saw "You've Got Mail" at the movies, I thought what a horrible example to young people. It had no good role models, cohabiting rather that married.

Dr. Laura, Rush Limbaugh and Judge Judy on TV all have one problem: no compassion. Kindness helps make a well-rounded society, in my opinion.
