LETTERS: SAVE, PRESERVE OLD FAMILY CEMETERIES

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

To the editor:

The John Guild Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held a grave-marking ceremony Oct. 19, 1977, at the Ware Cemetery north of Jackson at the Fruitland exit on Interstate 55. The DAR marked the grave of Col. Christopher Hays, a Revolutionary War soldier. The DAR marker is now gone.

The Ware cemetery no longer exists except for what appears to be a few grave markers lying on the ground. I hope in the future we can save and preserve our old family cemeteries. If we do not, we are losing a very important link to our ancestors.
