A good neighbor is celebrating its 30th anniversary this week.

The Scott City division of Wetterau Incorporated will mark the occasion with five days of festivities. The celebration will culminate with a food show at the Show Me Center Wednesday for vendors, retailers, manufacturers and their families.

The Southeast Missouri division of Wetterau organized in February of 1925 in St. Louis county. In 1961, a boom in sales relocated the food distributor to Scott City - to be closer to its Southeast Missouri customers.

Its Scott City distribution center of 280,000 square feet is impressive. Most of the 225 employees are from the immediate region. The distribution center serves 80 grocery stores in a 100-mile radius. Of those, 53 are IGA stores.

Wetterau is a promoter of Special Olympics, and hosts several large in-company blood drives during the year.

Their payroll and operating funds spent with local merchants provide an economic boost to the region. The Scott City division of Wetterau Inc. is a good neighbor. We wish them well on their 30th anniversary.
