ELL SUCCESS OVERWHELMING

Thanks.

It hardly seems possible, but this year's YELL campaign was even more enthusiastically embraced than last year.

Hundreds of spirited volunteers hawked newspapers from street corners; thousands of people gave to this special cause in Cape Girardeau and Scott City. Last year, 7,000 copies of the special YELL edition sold out by morning. So we printed more this year, just hoping more would sell. By day's end, all 10,000 copies were sold.

YELL will continue this morning in Jackson with about 1,200 copies of a special edition of the Cashbook-Journal on sale.

In all, more than $37,000 was raised for Newspapers in Education and special literacy programs of the Area Wide United Way. Your generosity will empower these literacy programs to make a difference throughout the year.
