DON'T SELL THE CITY'S SOUL FOR GAMBLING

To the Editor:

How can Cape citizens sell this city's soul to the devil by allowing the casino riverboat to come here just because of a promise of jobs and more money? Gambling will generate big bucks, but at what cost to our community in terms of promoting the wrong things? The Boyd Group promises that they'll give money to the city and to our schools, while their very presence will tell our children that they don't have to work hard to get ahead in life; you may gamble your way to prosperity.

As a mother of school-aged children, I object to developing the prime riverfront property in a way that is not family-friendly. Doesn't anyone have the guts and convictions (and money or fund-raising skills) to develop our lovely downtown area in a way that the adults and children may use? Stand up and be counted by voting "no" June 8.
