Cape Central's Tigers are headed to the Class 4A Final Four meeting today in Columbia. We wish the team good luck.

The Tigers will face Hazelwood Central's Hawks, beginning at 5 p.m.

Under the seasoned guidance of Coach Steve Williams, the Tigers completed an excellent season. The team batting average approaches an impressive .320. The team well deserves this post-season exposure.

Over the years, Cape Central has amassed a baseball tradition of excellence. Central's 11th appearance in the Final Four is a state record.

The Tigers last qualified for the state semifinals in 1991. They also competed in 1988, 1986, 1980, 1963, 1962, 1959, 1956, 1954 and 1952. The team won state championships in 1954 and 1962. They finished second three other times.

Senior pitcher David Michel, 9-1, will lead the team today. We wish the Tigers well, and hope they roar to victory. But win or lose, they are already a real source of Cape Girardeau pride.
