There is no doubt that the relocation of a portion of Route J in northern Cape Girardeau County to accommodate a major expansion of the Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co. plant was an inconvenience for some nearby residents.

But the good news is that this project was coordinated by the Missouri Department of Transportation so that it was started and completed in just over a month. Motorists who have seen the new stretch of highway are impressed that the relocation was completed so quickly and without any unusual delays.

In addition, the speedy work was a clear and positive gesture on the part of the highway department that it could step up to the challenge of meeting a need that will have a significant impact on one of the biggest industrial development projects in the state.

The P&G expansion will have longterm positive economic benefits for this area, and the highway effort was a major step in that direction.
