POST OFFICE ON WEST END WOULD BE CONVENIENT

The U.S. Postal Service is considering a branch office on Cape Girardeau's west end. Such a facility makes sense for Cape Girardeau in the wake of the commercial and residential boom on the city's west side.

Cape Girardeau's main post office on Frederick Street isn't conveniently located for a growing number of patrons. Growing traffic on the west end means a much longer trip to the downtown post office.

Besides, the post office already operates s 37.600-square-foot processing center on the city's west end. It is located in the Cape West Business Park on the west side of Interstate 55.

It would make sense to add post office boxes and retail items such as stamps at the same location.

Surely postal officials that make the trip between the processing center and downtown post office well know the headaches of rush-hour traffic. Perhaps these experiences of postal workers could be used as examples in establishing a branch office on the city's west end.

Greater convenience may mean increased use by customers. And that should help the Postal Service, which has worked hard in recent years to improve its financial picture and service reputation.
