ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams defensive end Claude Wroten was suspended without pay for the season Wednesday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Wroten, entering his third season with the Rams, was suspended for four games last season. His draft stock fell in 2006 when he was stopped for speeding and police discovered marijuana in the vehicle.
The charge of possession with intent to distribute was dropped, but he also failed a drug test at the NFL combine.
Wroten had been projected as a potential first-round pick in the 2006 draft but the Rams ended up taking him in the third round.
He is eligible to be reinstated May 30, 2009.
Rams to practice Friday
The Rams are expected in the Milwaukee suburb of Mequon on Thursday for training camp.
The Rams will start practicing Friday at Concordia University Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Twenty of their sessions will be open to the public.
Admission is free, but parking costs $5 for cars and $50 for buses.
About 150 Rams players, coaches and staff are expected at training camp. Team officials have said they're not sure what kind of reception they'll receive in Wisconsin.
Draft pick agrees to terms
The Rams agreed to terms on a three-year contract with cornerback Justin King, the team's fourth-round selection in the April draft.
Terms were not disclosed.
King was the 101st overall pick. He played at Penn State, where he was an all-Big 10 first-team selection in 2007.
The Rams have signed all but one of their draft picks. Second-round selection Donnie Avery, a wide receiver, remains unsigned.
