Tiger Woods saved par after hitting into a water hazard on the final hole Friday for a 3-under 69, leaving him two strokes behind Englishmen David Howell and Nick Dougherty after the second round of the HSBC Champions in Shanghai China.
Howell shot a bogey-free 67 and Dougherty had a 68 for 12-under 132 totals on the Sheshan International Golf Club course. Australia's Nick O'Hern had a 67 to match Woods at 10 under. Vijay Singh was 8 under after a 69.
U.S. Solheim Cup star Christina Kim shot her second straight 5-under 67 for a share of the second-round lead with Australia's Rachel Hetherington in the Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions. in Mobile, Ala.
Hetherington shot a 65 to match Kim at 10-under 134 on the Magnolia Grove Golf Club's Crossings Course. First-round leader Liselotte Neumann double-bogeyed the 17th en route to a 72 that left her four strokes back along with Hee-Won Han (68) and defending champion Heather Daly-Donofrio (70).
Jason Gore and Fred Funk combined for a 9-under 63 in alternate-shot play to top the leaderboard in the Franklin Templeton Shootout in Naples, Fla.
The teams of Fred Couples-Adam Scott, Mark O'Meara-Nick Price and John Huston-Kenny Perry opened with 64s on the Tiburon Golf Club course.
