ADVANCE, Mo. -- Kyle Long hurled a five-inning no-hitter and added a two-run home run for good measure as the Woodland Cardinals remained unbeaten on the season with a 14-1 victory over Advance Tuesday.

Long obtained all but one out by the strikeout, fanning 14 batters. He walked five and allowed one unearned run.

Long, who had two hits and finished with three RBIs, also received offensive support from Travis Benfield, who blasted a grand slam during a five-run fourth inning.

Woodland (6-0) scored a run in the first and two in the second before breaking the game open in the fourth. After Advance scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth, Woodland pushed across six runs in the fifth.

Alex VanGennip added two hits and three RBIs while Luke Johnson also had a pair of hits.

Oran 11, Oak Ridge 0

ORAN, Mo. -- Oran improved to 5-1 with a five-inning, run-rule rout over Oak Ridge.

Ryne Wood pitched five innings and allowed three hits while striking out five and walking no one.

Joey Bickings led Oran with three runs batted in, while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Trey Graviett had three hits in three at-bats for Oran, while Wood and Friga had two hits apiece.

Beau Morrison suffered the loss for Oak Ridge. He went four innings and allowed 11 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits. He struck out one and walked no one.

Perryville 13, St. Pius 3

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville scored six runs in the sixth inning to get past St. Pius and improve to 4-3.

Jon Miesner (2-1) earned the win in five innings of relief. He allowed three runs, all earned, on seven hits and four walks. He struck out three.

Andrew Meyr went 2-for-4 and drove home three runs, while Colby Palisch went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Mark Cissell had two hits in five at-bats and scored three times.

Leopold 5, Bloomfield 2

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Ashton James led the Wildcats to victory with his arm and his bat.

James (1-0) tossed a two-hitter, striking out 12, and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bloomfield picked up its runs, both unearned, late.

Leopold (2-2) scored three runs in the second and two in the fifth inning.

Leopold's Brandon Bueter, who doubled in his only official at-bat, had a rare steal of home plate.

SOFTBALL

Oran 19, Oak Ridge 9

ORAN, Mo. -- Oran remained unbeaten as it defeated Oak Ridge in five innings.

Oran (7-0) trailed 6-3 in the second inning, but scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning for a 10-6 lead. The Lady Eagles scored in every inning.

Teresa Hodges picked up the win in relief of starter Danielle Klipfel, who was lifted in the second inning. Hodges allowed just two hits over the final 3 1/3 innings. She struck out seven and walked one batter.

Cassie Knight had three of Oran's nine hits. Courtney Fowler also had two hits and three RBIs.

Jenny Harbik suffered the loss. Lexie Myers had two of Oak Ridge's six hits.

Leopold 15, Bloomfield 0

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- The Lady Wildcats made short work of Bloomfield in a game called after three innings due to the 15-run mercy rule.

Leopold (2-2) scored nine runs in the second inning and six in the third on 10 hits.

Jodi Van Gennip hurled the shutout, allowing three hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Hitting leaders for the Lady Wildcats were Melissa Thele, Ashley Jansen and Melinda Trankle with two hits each. One of Trankel's hits was a home run, while Thele clubbed two triples.

Kelly 14, Meadow Heights 4

BENTON, Mo. -- The Lady Hawks needed some late-inning offense to overtake the Lady Panthers.

Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Hawks bats finally came alive as they scored seven runs in the frame. Kelly added five more in the sixth to end the contest due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Dana Essner picked up the win. She gave up four hits and had eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

Natalie Lewer came on in relief in the sixth and struck out the side.

Offensively, Monica Senciboy led Kelly with three hits and five RBIs. Sara Essner and Lewer had two hits each, with Lewer driving home four runs.

Emiley Heitman took the loss for Meadow Heights.

GOLF

Poplar Bluff 142Cape Central 159

Poplar Bluff, led by a two-under score of 33 by Matt Hillis, combined for a stunning team score of 142 as it blew past Cape Central at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.

"He's proven himself so far as the best player in Southeast Missouri," Cape Central coach Dick Wadlington said of Hillis. Of Poplar Bluff's team score, Wadlington said, "I haven't seen those numbers in a long time. That's very, very good."

Todd Obergoenner led Central with a 38, while Paul York shot a 39. Nick Harter, Luke Oliver and Walt Lentz each shot 41s as the Tigers dropped to 4-2 in dual meets.

Jackson 156, Dexter 161

DEXTER, Mo. -- The Indians (4-2) scored a five-stroke victory over a strong Dexter squad at Hidden Trails Golf Course on Tuesday.

Jackson's Matt Litz earned medalist honors with a one-over-par 37. Peyton Sims (39), Kyle Perry (39) and Rhett Butler (41) accounted for the other Indian scores.

Matt Christian led Dexter with a two-over 38, while Chad Galloway (40), Michael Williams (41) and Chad Gill (42) rounded out the Bearcats' total.

St. Vincent 150Herculaneum 175

HERCULANEUM, Mo. -- Wes Richardet led St. Vincent with an even-par 36 at the Joachim Country Club as St. Vincent tied a season-best score of 150 despite very wet conditions.

Jon Paulus, Andrew Prost and Craig Schumer all shot rounds of 38.

JACKSON, Mo. -- The Jackson boys, minus top sprinter Mario Whitney, were soundly defeated by the Sikeston Bulldogs.

Todd Shelton was the Indians top point producer as he won the 400 meters and ran a leg on the winning 1600- and 3200- meter relay teams.

The Lady Indians, winners of all three relay events, held up their end of the bargain with a victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Jeanna Bolen took second place in the 100 meters and participated on the first-place 800- and 1600-meter relay teams.

Herculaneum Invitational

HERCULANEUM, Mo. -- The Perryville girl's track team finished third in the seven-team meet.

The Lady Pirates tallied 115 points, while host Herculaneum captured the championship with 130. Clayton finished second with 120 points.

Susan Miller led the Lady Pirates with wins in the 400- and 200-meter dashes and anchored the winning 800- and 1600-meter relay teams.

GIRLS SOCCER

Perryville 1, Jackson 0, OT

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perryville needed overtime to get past Jackson.

The Lady Indians dropped to 4-3.

"We had a defensive breakdown," Jackson coach Zack Walton said. "We had been playing well in overtime and had a little glitch in the system. But if you finish a game 0-0, you can't blame the defense. Our offense just didn't execute."

Jackson's junior varsity, fresh off a fourth-place finish in a weekend tournament in Carbondale, Ill., picked up a 1-0 victory on a goal by Emily Curtis. Missy Lane recorded the shutout in goal.

FRESHMEN BASEBALL

Cape Central 11Notre Dame 2

Jacob Yarbrough pitched a complete game for the win as Central's freshmen improved to 4-0.

Lucas Presson had two hits for the Tigers.
