Logan Thomsen was the first runner to cross the finish line with a time of 17 minutes, 9 seconds to lead the Woodland boys cross country team to first place at the Chaffee Postal Meet.

The Cardinals finished 22 points ahead of Zalma to clinch the championship. Peyton Ford finished 14 seconds behind Thomsen in second place as the Bulldogs also finished second overall in the team standings.

On the girls' side, host Chaffee edged Saxony Lutheran by seven points to claim first place. Hannah Glueck placed third to lead the Red Devils to victory.

Woodland's Cheyenne Wells finished first in 21:42 as the Cardinals finished third in the team standings, seven points behind the Crusaders.

Madeline Hendrix hit a triple and batted in three runs to lead the Red Devils in the win at home over the Pirates.

Carleigh Burnett was the winning pitcher and also doubled for Chaffee (8-14). She threw four innings and gave up no runs on two hits. She struck out two and walked four.

Brandi Huber sustained the loss in the circle for Perryville (8-11). She went the distance and allowed six earned runs, struck out two and walked four.

A four-run fifth inning for the Mules was enough to fend off the visiting Hawks.

Shelby Sievers went the distance in the circle to get the win for Poplar Bluff (16-6). She allowed one unearned run and recorded 10 strikeouts and three walks.

Gracie King hit a double and drove in three runs for the Mules.

Alexis Dock took the loss for Kelly (13-8). She pitched a complete game and gave up four unearned runs. She struck out four and walked six.

GIRLS TENNIS

Notre Dame 5, Dexter 1

The second-seeded host Bulldogs only dropped one doubles match to dispose of the third-seeded Bearcats in a semifinal of the Class 1 District 1 team tournament.

Notre Dame (13-2) advanced to today's district championship match with top-seeded Kennett (13-2). The Indians prevailed with a decisive 9-0 sweep of fourth-seeded Fredericktown in Tuesday's other semifinal to end the Black Cats' season at 11-4. The Bulldogs and Indians split their two matches during the regular season.

Dexter finished its season with a record of 9-5.

Corie Williams netted the lone goal on an assist from Zach Meyr as the Crusaders fell to the Tigers on the road.

Goalkeeper Jacob Stueve had 12 saves for Saxony Lutheran (5-9).

Cape Central improved to 5-12.

VOLLEYBALL

Woodland 25 25, Leopold 22 17

Krista Rhodes hammered 14 kills and had 10 digs to lead the Cardinals in the road sweep of the Wildcats.

Shelby Sawyer recorded 10 digs and five kills, and Chelsea Cureton added 10 kills for Woodland (15-6-2). Anna Deck dished out 12 assists and notched four digs, while Madison Cover contributed nine assists, five digs and three aces. Kelsee Long tallied four kills, and Emma Rinacke had three kills, three digs, two blocks and two assists for the Cardinals.

Emily Seiler had five kills, five digs and two aces to pace Leopold (9-11). Patience VanderMierden provided nine assists and six digs, while Brittany Garland had seven digs and two aces for the Wildcats.

JV -- Woodland won 25-10, 26-24

Bloomfield 22 25 25, Advance 25 21 20

Bloomfield's Bailey Below collected 14 kills as the Wildcats edged the Hornets in three sets to pick up the conference win at home.

Jewell Chism added 10 kills for Bloomfield (10-10-2, 4-1 SCAA Conference). Kaley Roper recorded 22 digs and five kills, and Nicole Riper dished out 27 assists and notched 17 digs for the Wildcats.

Advance dropped to 13-8-2 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The teams will face each other Tuesday in the opening round of the SCAA Conference Tournament. The Hornets are seeded fourth and the Wildcats are seeded fifth.
