"I had talked with the administration and asked for their advice and tried to get a little guidance from them and see if they could help me and if I could help them," Nutt said.

"Woodland was extremely great to me and I'll definitely miss them and the Woodland community. At the same time, I'm excited to see what the future holds."

On Saturday, Nutt posted the announcement to his Facebook page, writing, "I am forever grateful of the overwhelming support, belief, love that I received from Cardinal nation and the fine community of Marble Hill! I cannot thank Woodland enough for allowing me to be a head coach for the first time at a young age."

As for what's next, Nutt is exploring his options.

"I'm open to whatever else comes next," he said. "I'm already talking to a couple of schools."

The Cardinals went 41-15 in two years under Nutt, including 20-8 this winter. Their season came to an end at the hands of Saxony Lutheran in the semifinals of the Class 3 District 2 tournament.

"I have only good things to say," Woodland athletic director Elaine Lasher said of Nutt. "He's a good guy and I've enjoyed my time working with him."

Nutt's brother, Lucas, just weeks ago announced his own resignation as boys basketball coach at Senath-Hornersville. Does that mean the pair might unite?

"I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open and see what opportunities come about," Nutt said. "If we ever do get to work together it would be a huge blessing. I'm sure he can help me a lot and I could help him a lot. It's always been a dream of ours, but we both have to make sure we take care of ourselves and there's no telling."

Nutt's father, Dickey, was fired as men's basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State in March of 2015. He's currently on the men's basketball staff at Florida State.
