Cape Junior Legion won both its pool games Friday as play opened in its own Wood & Huston Cape Junior Legion Invitational Tournament.

Cape Junior Legion, competing in the National Division, disposed of Perryville 10-0 in five innings and defeated Kirkwood 10-5.

Festus also went 2-0 in the American Division.

Jay Pierce picked up the win for Cape against Perryville. Pierce allowed just two hits and struck out four. Justin Welker paced Wood & Huston's offense by going 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Welker belted a three-run homer and a double.

Against Kirkwood, Timmy Wencewicz went the distance, allowing nine hits and walking eight. He struck out two.

Wencewicz helped himself with three hits and teammates Zac Fidler and Welker each had two.
